Formerly contributing editor at Lonely Planet magazine and deputy editor at Time Out Beijing, I am currently working as a freelance writer and editor in London, covering culture, food, travel and nature.

My writing has appeared in outlets including The Atlantic, BBC Travel, CNN, The Economist, The Guardian, The Independent, Los Angeles Times, Radio Times, Shortlist, The Telegraph, The Times, Travel+Leisure Asia, Wanderlust, and various in-flight magazines, among others.

Memorable moments from my career include interviewing the artist Ai Weiwei while he was under police surveillance, covering Mongolia’s hip-hop culture, profiling the farmer-scientist who is bringing saffron cultivation back to Britain and scaling a volcano in flip-flops.

I am available for commissions. Email me at freelance.gabriellej@gmail.com.
